Harmonic Balancers, known as Crankshaft Dampeners, are often misunderstood parts located on pulleys connecting the Crankshaft. They absorb and remove unwanted vibrations from twisting in the crank at mid to high RPMs, and extend longevity in the engine internals, reducing the amount of noise seeping into the cabin. The crankshaft also rotates the Timing Belts to ensure that pistons and valves operate in sync. Belts connected to the harmonic balancers also drive the Power Steering so any issues with the balancer can result in leaks in the power steering system.
