Timing Belt Idlers

Timing belts and chains can last up to 100 thousand miles. When timing issues occur and belts are fine after thorough inspection, it's time to check the pulleys. Loose tensioner and Idler Pulleys cause loss of power, grinding and squeaking noises from misaligned belts, and more serious issues ranging from misfires to engine seizure. While changing timing belts and pulleys, also check for wear in the Serpentine Belt. This too is driven by the crank but runs auxiliary systems like water pumps, power steering, and air-conditioning. Resolve common problems including difficulty turning the steering wheel, or frequent overheating with a compatible Serpentine Belt Drive Component Kit.
