Circulating the oil through the engine is the main task of the Auto Oil Pump. This can be driven by gears connecting to the crankshaft or by the timing belt, depending on the engine layout. A common habit is to change both the Timing Belt or Chain when also changing the oil to ensure proper lubrication and oil pressure. Additionally, you’ll want to check the Timing Case Gaskets for wear, and in cars with variable valve timing, the VVT Sprockets that control the timing in the cam lobes to lift and lower valves at varying engine speeds.
