Without a cap on the oil chamber, you run the risk of an increased ingress of direct as well as the venting of heavily polluting gasses from the Crankcase into the atmosphere. Regular oil changes are one way to ensure a longer-lasting engine. Topping up means Oil Pans will have enough oil to go around, and pumps can function at the correct pressure. To be on the safe side, oil changes are the right time to also check the condition of filters, and that Oil Filter Covers are adequately sealed to prevent the buildup of dust, water and, road debris.
